Most of us have heard this famous phrase in connection with the filming of a scene for a movie, an advertisement, a documentary or some other form of visual experience. So what place does it have inside a company that produces software for banking, loans and payments?
The answer is actually quite simple – every new release of a software application is like a premiere for a movie, or first showing for a customer-building advert. There is a process that we go through in Megasol so as to determine the best way to handle an internal or client request for change or enhancement, and it involves everyone at our regular staff meetings.
While many of our clients are multi-nationals with their own development staff who can easily use Corniche API to extend the capabilities of the way in which their customer-facing front-ends use the background Corniche services – like, for example, the handling of a radically new kind of exchange and payments account for sole use within a trade group – we also cater to the small startup or family bank – what we could call a private bank – which does not have or want to have development staff. And so when they need a solution to a problem, we throw a light on it – step 1 – Identify the need.
I know, how does camera fit into this? Well, that is the learning experience which is required before one commits code to computer to solve the need. We need to see the problem in real terms – and if we have already seen something similar, we need to know and record the variations required for the client, the jurisdiction, the market. This can and does involve research and discussion – in-house between ourselves and also with affected clients – to make sure that what we are seeing is actually what is wanted.
Our design, programming and testing staff have all been with us for a very long time – we are like a family – and all staff members are encouraged to have their two-cents worth – to come up with their original ideas or new variations to meet the needs of new additions or changes. And some develop or bring unique skills and experience to the project table so that when we shout “Action”, the right staff members are the ones who quickly and efficiently write and test the code required to support the end objective.
And at some point, the new “scene” is complete – ready to be seen by our clients. It goes into a software release and we, the Megasol family, celebrate the moment as Corniche grows and meets the needs and expectations of all of our clients, small to very large.
And how do we celebrate? We stay on target with our annual darts tournament. We toast the advances at frequent lunch or dinner events for all staff. We celebrate the closing of another great year at Julbord – our evening out in December. And we continue to grow our skills as a family who can rely on each other to get to the big picture.
